Meet the Composter: Jackie Lesser Faust

Jackie Lesser Faust

Jackie Lesser Faust and her husband, Dave Faust, live in the Ambler area. Dave is an integrative health dentist at Bucks County Smiles.  Jackie has a coaching company called Creating Impact. She works with leaders and entrepreneurs to supercharge their superpowers for their work/life and their life’s work. With over 25 years of industry experience, Jackie helps her clients navigate what’s next for successful and positive change. Jackie thoroughly enjoys her work and loves being a part of so many conscious conversations.

Dave is an avid golfer and Jackie started playing with enthusiasm two years ago.  Jackie loves to be in nature and enjoys walking and hiking. She also takes pleasure in reading and spending time with family and friends.

Jackie and Dave have two grown children and a granddaughter. Their daughter Lauren lives in Austin with her husband Chris and 4-year-old dog Sunny.  Their son Alex resides in Mount Airy with his wife Ali, daughter Leni Mae and puppy Walter.  Composting runs in the family!  When Alex and Ali moved to Mount Airy two years ago, they inspired a neighborhood compost pick up for their townhouse community.

Back to Earth is Jackie’s first composting experience.  She states, “I am over-the-moon happy to have the opportunity to give back to Mother Earth what she gives to us.”  Jackie chooses to compost because she feels passionate about the planet and says “I am slightly obsessed when it comes to putting anything in the garbage.  I go out of my way to find ways to reduce waste, reuse and recycle.  It feels like a passion, a mission, and a purpose.”

Other than composting, Jackie and Dave have many sustainable practices. They belong to Pennypack CSA, which works well because they eat a lot of vegetables.  They use Terracycle and Rabbit Recycle on a monthly basis.  They joke that they almost never have to put the trash bin to the curb, but there are bins and boxes of recycle in their garage to make sure they are doing their best for Mother Earth.  Jackie says, “I know that when she’s healthy, we can be as well.”  They do not buy single use plastic bags or water bottles and they only store food in glass containers. Jackie states, “We are, in our small way, standing for less single-use consumption.”

Jackie says she will go far and wide to find ways to recycle and reduce waste. She is a strong proponent of donating what she is no longer using and enjoys finding treasures in what others no longer need, allowing the old to become new again.

She likes to share information about sustainable practices with others, like “there are actually several resources that our county provides such as e-waste and hazardous waste recycling.”  She encourages people use the resources, rather than throwing such items in the trash.  In addition, Jackie informs others of the myriad of ways to recycle and repurpose items, like:

· Best Buy accepts and recycles used computer equipment

· Home Depot and Lowes collect batteries and some lightbulbs

· Greendrop takes donations of gently worn clothing and used household items

· Mom’s market accepts batteries for recycling

· DSW accepts gently worn sneakers

· There is a website for help finding other places to recycle almost anything: https://search.earth911.com/

Jackie and Dave do not treat their lawn with any chemicals.  They use detergents and cleaning products, along with personal care products, that are free of chemicals that could contaminate the water and their health. They believe that each small action, like turning off lights in every room when they leave it, lowering the temperature at night or when they are away, closing shades to keep the house cooler in the summer, etc. adds up to big results.

What is Jackie’s favorite thing about Back to Earth Compost Crew? Colleen, of course!  Jackie exclaims, “I love Colleen! I met her in the parking lot at Weavers Way in Ambler and I was super excited to know that I could not only drop off, but that Back to Earth also picks up! I signed up immediately and am thrilled to be a subscriber and also to support a small business that I believe in so wholeheartedly.”

Back to Earth Compost Crew is happy to have Jackie in our composting community!
