Meet the Composter: Katie Tlush, Tlush Family Farm

Tlush Family Farm

Katie Tlush, Founder & CEO of Tlush Family Farm located in Plymouth Meeting, composts simply because; it feels good! After a 15+ year stint as a dental hygienist in 2020 she pivoted - like most - to a pandemic driven turn of her gardening hobby into a home-based business. Tlush Family Farm is an indoor agricultural farm that sells gourmet mushrooms, microgreens and edible flowers, wholesale. Their products can be found in the area's most elite establishments like Jean George Sky High at the Four Seasons, Blue Bell Inn, to various country clubs, and other local farm to table restaurants.

Tlush likes to think she is changing the idea of what farming stereotypically looks like, by producing a large amount of volume in a very small space; working in square footage vs acreage.  Indoor farming creates a large amount of organic material, and composting microgreens soil and mushroom fruiting blocks with Back to Earth Compost Crew helps Katie return valuable nutrients back into the earth.  She reports “locally sourced, environmentally friendly… who doesn’t feel good about that!” Katie's favorite part about working with Back to Earth Compost Crew is working with Colleen! Saying "Colleen is a gem. She is a genuinely good person who loves connecting and helping people".

Tlush Family Farm is currently on the hunt for a part time farm hand, if you’re interested, click here!

Back to Earth Compost Crew is happy to have Katie and the Tlush Family Farm in our composting community!
