Wasted food is the largest single component of everyday garbage. Composting food scraps and yard trimmings diverts waste from polluting landfills and incinerators. Applied to soil, compost enhances soil organic matter, structure, fertility, microbial activity, water holding capacity, and ability to resist plant diseases.

Landfills and incinerators emit potent greenhouse gases. But compost added to soils helps sequester carbon, while offsetting fossil-fuel-intensive fertilizers. Healthy soils are an important carbon sink. Local composting encourages people to engage with each other while learning how their food is grown.

Buckets are 5 gallons with an easy on/off lid.

We suggest you use a brown paper grocery bag to line your bucket. This helps keep your bucket clean.

Coffee grounds and paper filters, fruits and veggies, breads and pasta, eggshells, nut shells, rice, tea bags with staples removed, paper napkins and paper towels without cleaning chemicals, brown paper bags and ripped cardboard, pizza boxes torn up, sawdust, wood chips, leaves, grass clippings, pine needles, hay or straw, non-invasive yard trimmings, pet hair, toothpicks, and shredded newspaper.

Meat, bones, dairy, produce stickers, rubber bands, twist ties, coated cardboard, junk mail, plastics, and any “compostable” plastic-like bags.

BioBags and similar liners are not accepted.

Pick-ups happen every other week. Once you register, you will receive a welcome email with your bucket drop off day and day of pick-up. After that you may log into your account at any time to view your pick-up day calendar.

Place your bucket out by 8:00 am on your scheduled morning.

Pick-ups are between 8am - 5 pm.

Your first month is free! Includes one bucket and every other week pick-up.

After the trial: one bucket is $216 per year or $20/month.

Two buckets are $291.60 per year or $27/ month.

Yes, there are two compost giveback days.

To get the Fall giveback you must be an active customer by September 1st.

To get the Spring giveback you must be an active customer by Feb. 1st.

Composters are eligible for up to 3 five gallon containers in the Fall & Spring. Amount is subject to change based on availability.

Pricing is $60 per yard plus a $45 delivery fee, or $25 delivery for current Back to Earth Compost Crew customers.
